Supporting Skills and Investing in the next generation
As a Warrington based company, Cruden was delighted to be the main sponsor for a skills competion day at Warrington Collegiate.
Our managers have developed an excellent relationship with the tutors and staff at Warrington Collegiate, who work tirelessly to deliver key skills in key trades like brickwork and joinery, whilst seeking work placement opportunities for the students with local employers.
Following ongoing discussions with the college about future opportunities that our company will be able to offer students, an idea was born to organise a jointly supported event that celebrates the previous years achievement and progress of students in their learning process.
Student learners in both the brickwork and joinery workshops engaged on Level 1 and Level 2 NVQ courses were tasked of delivering a piece of work, in a predetermined time, during the day. All items of work were subsequently inspected and marked by senior construction managers from Cruden, taking into account technical, quality and appearance factors to determine the eventual winners.
Prizes were presented to 1st and 2nd placed students with those in 3rd place receiving a certificate.
With the excellent cooperation of the Warrington Collegiate team, Cruden Construction has to date placed three of the work experience students into full time employment on apprenticeships.
We are confident that we will be offering more Warrington Collegiate students employment opportunities in the not too distant future to show how partnership working can bring tangible benefits to all involved.
Both organisations hope to continue to develop this inaugural skills day into an annual event, and to expand the scope of trades and apprentices taking part next year.
