Investing in Choices for the Future
Communicating with young people and helping them to prepare for the transition from education to the workplace is amongst the most fulfilling aspects of our Escalate Training and Career Development programme.
Our Community Ambassador, Barry Curran, supported by colleagues were thoroughly delighted to provide assistance recently to three local schools who organised career events which focused on this theme and were designed to help young people make better, informed choices about their future direction and career.
In Warrington, Birchwood Community High School arranged for all their Year 10 students to have a mock interview, undertaken by local employers, including Cruden Group, who recreated real life situations which enabled students to improve their CV applications and sharpen up their interview techniques.
At Ormskirk Chadwick Academy, Widnes, a team of Cruden personnel from our Head Office and from our construction sites, gave presentations to twenty five, Year 11 students on various topics including modern apprenticeship opportunities and how to access them. The students had the benefit of meeting Ryan Wilde, a locally recruited apprentice in full time employment with us, who gave first hand testimony and answers to questions about working in construction.
Sylvester Junior School, Huyton was the venue for an interactive event organised by Liverpool Compact which takes place yearly in junior schools in Merseyside. The initiative called ‘Inspire Young Minds’ takes the form of a career carousel, where young people ask various employers inquisitive questions about the workplace. One question asked of our Community Ambassador, Barry Curran was: “Did you go to school when you were my age?” Barry’s reply was: ”I did, and 50 years ago I attended this school, just like you”.
In supporting these very important career events, we hope that our knowledge, skills, expertise and investment has helped these schools and colleges to prepare the pupils and students for careers in many industries and in particular the construction industry.
