Cruden Construction and Helena Partnerships to complete development at Knowsley Road, St Helens
Cruden Starts Phase 3 of Liberty Place Housing Development
Cruden Construction is delighted to have reached agreement with Helena Partnerships to re-commence and complete the Liberty Place housing development on Knowsley Road, St Helens.
The site has been on St Helens Council register of brownfield sites earmarked for housing development for many years, and although the first houses and apartments were completed by Cruden and Helena Partnerships in October 2009 and September 2011 respectively, the financial crash impacted the local housing market considerably and made the remaining elements of the development unviable – until now.
The final phase of the development, which now also incorporates adjacent land which was previously earmarked for a care home, comprises 33 one and two bedroom apartments over three blocks for affordable rent and 39, two and three bedroom terraced houses for shared ownership.
A new, second entrance off Knowsley Road will be formed to provide access to the apartments whilst the existing Liberty Place road will be extended to give access to the new houses.
Cruden Construction will start the £7m works in late June 2018 with the first houses becoming available in August 2019 and the balance of houses and apartments on or around December 2019/January 2020.
Commenting on the impending start of the final phase of this important and much needed housing scheme for St Helens, Cruden Construction Director, David Dickie, says:
“We have been trying to find a way to complete the Liberty Place development for many years. We are pleased that we are now in a position where solutions to the construction and viability challenges have become aligned, enabling the scheme to be completed which will benefit both the existing householders and those people seeking affordable housing in the area.”
